Nick Carraway: An Unreliable Narrator

The story of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is about a man, named Nick Carraway, who moved to Long Island’s North Shore to work as a government corporate-bond trader at Wall Street. He is the neighbor of a very wealthy and popular man, named Jay Gatsby—who is deeply and hopelessly in love with Nick’s second cousin, Daisy. However, Daisy is already married and has a family with Tom Buchanan—a famous polo player. The novel is simply a love story; it is a story of a hopeless romantic in love with a woman whom he will never have again. With the lack of morality and unrestrained materialism of the people around him, Nick had witnessed the gift of hope of Jay Gatsby and the evils within New York City.

The whole story is narrated by Nick Carraway, who had close experiences with both Gatsby and Daisy. Everything in the story is only the collection of Nick Carraway’s perception on various issues, his opinions of them, and the thoughts he had racing during the experience. Looking at the way Nick narrated the story, it can be ascertained that Nick Carraway is biased to Gatsby throughout the story, in such a way that the accounts are very much one-sided as opposed to it being an impartial reminiscence of his past.

What You Can Use To Help You Focus

That’s what I need right now, now that school has begun.
I’m one of those people that gets easily distracted. I get distracted by so many things—I get distracted by hunger, the rainbow, cold room temperature, the music I’m listening to, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Tumblr—I can name so many. That’s how easily distracted I can be. So distracted that I only get to study 1/4 of the time that I really allotted for studying. I end up cramming the next day, and I don’t even get to finish everything.
In my course, reading is a must. There’s no day that I will not have to read or do something. Not to mention, I also have organization secretary duties to fulfill. This really requires me to really focus so that I can finish my work faster and better, giving me time to rest properly.
I listed down the things that distracts me most and thought of ways to help me focus more.

Pulling Off An All Nighter

As a college student,I know how it feels to fight sleepiness. I know how it feels to stay up late at night because you have so many handouts to read, so many requirements to finish, and so many exams to study for. Problem is, we’re human beings and our body is required to sleep in order to charge and regenerate the cells in the body. In english, that means, we need to sleep.
I’m not saying that sleep is the enemy. In pulling off an all-nighter, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have 0% sleep. All you need to do is to budget your time, eat right, and drink right.

Study Tip For Students With Ineffective Professors

This week is my finals week.

It’ll be my last exam as a sophomore college student, so I better study well for the exams.
It’s do-or-die now!

One problem though…

Most of my professors don’t come to class as often as they should, and that’s a problem because they don’t get to discuss or even just give what will be covered in the exams.
I’m having a hard time with Statistics, Biology and Philippine History because it’s either the topic is not well explained or the professor never comes to class (hmmm…sounds like my Bio prof)
